We have heard many concerns while working with small business owners. We know that each company is unique and has their own goals and concerns. We have put together the following Q and A to help you understand that many companies have similar concerns. Below are examples of how we are able to help them make improvements.
Employer: We can’t afford to implement a wellness program.
Byrd Wellness Concepts: You can’t afford NOT to implement a wellness program. Not every company can set up an elaborate on-site fitness facility, or bring in a chef for catered meetings, but the medical costs of an unhealthy workforce far outweigh that of the wellness program. Think of it in the following scenario: you say to a mechanic, “I can’t afford an oil change.” What happens to your mechanic bill when you go a year without getting the oil changed? The repairs are now costing you much more than the routine maintenance you decided you “couldn’t afford”.
Employer: Our company is not large enough or no other company our size
has a wellness program.
Byrd Wellness Concepts: While this formula has worked for many large companies, it can also work for smaller companies. Small businesses are dealing with the same problems: rising health care costs, lost time due to injury and illness and the list goes on. The most successful businesses, large or small, are innovators and bold enough to lead the way toward a better model. You can be that leader. By making a small investment, your employees will become a healthy, productive, satisfied workforce.
Employer: No one will participate.
Byrd Wellness Concepts: Studies have shown that people want to participate in programs that help them make positive changes. Not only do they want to participate, they will appreciate you for providing the resources to improve their lifestyle. You will see increased satisfaction and morale. Healthy employees are happy employees.
Employer: Their health is none of my business.
Byrd Wellness Concepts: While specific health numbers are not shared on an individual basis, the employees’ health IS the business of the employer. Unhealthy employees are (or will be) costing your business a great deal. A business that takes care of its assets is going to get the most from those assets. By taking care of your employees, they will be taking care of your business by working harder and
missing less work.
